Matchday 4 of the 2nd Sailing Bundesliga: 8th place for the BAT Sailing Team at Berlin’s Wannsee
21 September 2026
Three days, 16 races and conditions that changed from hour to hour: the BAT Sailing Team – putting inclusion into practice on the regatta course – finished the fourth match day of the 2026 Sailing Bundesliga season in 8th place. The team remains in tenth place in the 2nd Sailing Bundesliga league table. The event at Berlin’s Wannsee was hosted by the Potsdam Yacht Club.
What it’s all about
In the BAT Sailing Team, people with and without disabilities sail together – not side by side, but as a single crew, at league level. The team is entering its third season in the 2nd Sailing Bundesliga. In this league, all teams sail on identical boats, and the competition consists of many short races taken in turn. Points are awarded based on finishing positions: whoever has the fewest points at the end comes out on top.
Three days, three faces
Friday’s opening day brought good wind and six races. The first race didn’t go to plan – of all things, a ferry operated by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe got in the way of the team and another boat. After that, the crew found their rhythm: finishes of 6th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd and 4th, including a race win.
Saturday, with its shifting winds, demanded every tactical skill the team had to offer. Six races, finishing 3rd, 6th, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 6th – and another curious moment: this time it wasn’t a ferry, but an air buoy that the team caught with its keel.
On Sunday, the wind picked up once more, with stronger gusts than the previous day. With finishes of 2nd, 6th, 1st and 4th, the crew rounded off the event in fine style. The highlight of the day: a full planing run to the finish – when the boat gets so fast that it no longer ploughs through the water but glides on top of it. These are exactly the moments sailing is all about.
8th place on matchday, 10th place for the season
16 races, 54 points, 8th place out of 18 teams: following a 7th-place finish on the third match day, this is the second-best result of the season. The Akademischer SegelVerein Warnemünde won the match day with 39 points, ahead of the Flensburger Segel-Club with 45 and the Segel-Club Ville with 46 points. In the season standings, the team – listed in the league table as ‘Wir sind Wir’ – sits in 10th place with 37 points. Leading the table is the Segel-Club Ville with 20 points, ahead of the Lübecker Yacht-Club and the Konstanzer Yacht Club, both on 21 points.
Particularly encouraging: the new line-up with Clara in the trimmer position, which was practised over the summer, has proved its worth from day one. The teamwork is paying off, and the team has grown even closer together.
Thanks to the organisers and the race committee
A big well done goes to the race committee: all the scheduled races were completed under fair conditions. And the Potsdam Yacht Club really pulled out all the stops throughout the weekend, both on the water and ashore – with a harbour festival, boat christenings and a sailors’ party. Many thanks for hosting the event and for your hospitality.
The team also had reason to celebrate alongside its partner club: the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein won the round of the 1st Sailing Bundesliga in Berlin and heads into the 2026 season finale with a 13-point lead.
We’ll continue in October
The season finale will take place from 15 to 17 October, also on Berlin’s Wannsee, at the Seglerhaus am Wannsee sailing club.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you goes to our supporters and sponsors: none of this would be possible without your backing. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
