Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V

Promoting inclusive sailing and women in the sport of sailing

Inclusion: Lots of people talk about it – we actually do it

On 4 November 2022, 13 enthusiastic members from all over Germany founded our club. In addition to our club’s objectives, we will be breaking new ground – through innovative formats, organising events as ‘flagship projects’, networking and increased media coverage, we will promote interest in the sport, particularly by supporting women’s sailing and inclusive sailing for people with disabilities and those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

We are a club for and with our members; we are particularly proud of the high proportion of women and people with disabilities amongst our membership!

We believe that a sports club must be more than just a statistical figure, and we see our club, ‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing’, first and foremost as a community of many people who share responsibility, take care of one another and actively promote this ethos to the wider world.

Although we are still a young club, we can draw on a wealth of long-standing experience in sailing with people with and without disabilities amongst our members. The ‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing’ project alone had already been running successfully for 10 years before the club was founded!

Are there any sustainable sports projects? And if so, what exactly shapes the approach and performance of such a project in a sustainable way? Is it actually possible to put such an aspiration into practice consistently and almost everywhere? Perhaps not – but we believe that we must try to do so every day. In environmental, economic and social terms. That is why we have enshrined sustainability as a core principle in our club’s strategy.

Our projects

Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup

Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup

to mark German Unity Day

In 2023, with the support of the Heinz Kettler Foundation and in partnership with the Möhnesee Yacht Club, we launched an inclusive sailing series. We provided the boats to the club teams. The races were sailed on RS Venture Connect boats. The boats were donated by the Heinz Kettler Foundation.

The Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup will enter its fourth season in 2026 – and will take on a European dimension for the first time. With race days on Lake Möhnesee, as part of the SailGP in Sassnitz and in Belgium, the series is expanding beyond Germany’s borders. The race day at the SailGP in particular will once again provide a major platform and give inclusive sailing the visibility it deserves.
