About us

“Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.” was founded in November 2022 with the mission of establishing sailing as a tool for social inclusion. As a recognised non-profit association operating nationwide – although our inclusive sailing courses are primarily based in Hamburg – we are passionately committed to making the transformative power of sailing accessible to people with disabilities and socially disadvantaged groups. We deliberately break down the traditional divide between para-sailing and ‘mainstream’ sailing: everyone sails together. With over 50 per cent of our membership comprising women and people with disabilities, we genuinely lead by example in terms of inclusion. We also run a globally unique inclusive regatta group for children and young people.

Sailing is one of the most inclusive sports of all and enables almost anyone – regardless of the nature or severity of their disability – to take part in the sport. This unique characteristic makes sailing an ideal medium for putting inclusion into practice. Our activities are currently attracting an exceptionally high level of attention and an enormous influx of participants. This trend shows that inclusive sailing strikes a chord with society and is increasingly seen as a model for active participation.

Child protection at

„Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.“

We aim to provide children and young people with a safe environment in sport. Below you will find the names of the relevant contact persons, as well as the child protection policy, which sets out the measures taken by ‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.’ to prevent and protect against sexualised violence (PSG). The child protection policy is available to everyone in the club.

Child Protection Policy

1. Verification of extended criminal record checks
Before commencing work, all persons working with children and young people are required to provide an extended criminal record check, which must be verifiably documented. The criminal record check must not be more than three months old at the time of submission. ‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.’ does not employ any persons who have been convicted of a criminal offence under the Agreement on the Exclusion from Employment of Persons with Relevant Criminal Records pursuant to Section 72a of Book VIII of the Social Code (SGB VIII).
2. Appointment of the PSG contact person at “Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.”
Claudia Langenhan is the internal contact person at “Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.” and can be contacted by email at claudia.langenhan@wir-sind-wir.org.
3. Training of the PSG contact person
Our internal contact person regularly attends training courses on the subject of PSG. Certificates of attendance are verifiably documented.
4. Code of conduct
All persons working with children and young people must sign a code of conduct when their contract is drawn up. This is verifiably documented.
5. Risk analysis
In order to identify potential risks to children and young people within the club, an analysis was carried out of various areas of activity (e.g. courses, training camps and regattas, etc.) within the club. The risk analysis is intended to become an integral part of club life in order to foster a constant awareness of child protection. We
intend to update the analysis at least once per financial year.
6. Intervention Guidelines
The intervention guidelines come into effect as soon as there is a risk to a child’s welfare within the club.
7. Code of Conduct
Based on the risk analysis, a code of conduct has been drawn up in collaboration with full-time and voluntary staff. With immediate effect, all persons working with children and young people under the age of 18 within the club will be required to
sign the code of conduct before commencing their duties. The club will keep verifiable records of this.
8. Complaints Management
As described in point 2, the details of both internal and external contact persons are listed on the website of ‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.’.
9. Implementation in the Youth Regulations/Articles of Association
The following passage is enshrined in the preamble to the Articles of Association of ‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.’:
We are committed to the comprehensive protection of children and young people and advocate for the physical and mental well-being and self-determination of the young people entrusted to our care, for gender equality, and for sport free from doping and manipulation.
‘Wir sind Wir – Inclusion in Sailing e.V.’ upholds ideological, political and ethnic tolerance and neutrality, and promotes the inclusion and integration of people from migrant backgrounds. Racism and political extremism have no place here. Sustainability and environmental protection are a matter of course for us.
